K-tect energy efficient, prefabricated structural metal stud building systems integrate insulation and eliminate thermal bridging. Made of two extraordinarily reliable and effective construction materials - light gauge structural steel and expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulating core - K-tect systems provide ultimate thermal efficiency, enhance durability, and improve cost savings. The building sections can be used to construct exterior walls, interior walls, roofs and floors.
K-tect Sustainable Building Systems offer cradle to cradle sustainability, are chemical free, mold and moisture resistant, insect resistant, fire resistant and allow near zero air infiltration with no offgassing. Construction waste is virtually eliminated and no special equipent or training is needed for installation. Moreover, the design of K-tect Sustainable Building Systems components is governed by IBC Section 2210. K-tect Systems are strong, lightweight and 100% recyclable.
K-tect Systems provide a solution to many of the common problems associated with building envelope construction. The choice of materials and ingenious design eliminates thermal bridging while providing superior thermal (R4 to R5 per inch) and sound insulation.
All K-tect Systems are easy on the environment - inside and out. The EPS insulating core contains no chemicals that can off-gass and will not break down over time. It has been certified by GREENGUARD, in two categories: GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality and GREENGUARD Children & Schools. Both of the components in K-tect Systems are completely recyclable. The prestigious firm of McDonough and Braungart has determined that the EPS insulating core "is suited for circulating in a cradle-to-cradle life cycle as a technical nutrient".
K-tect Systems can help architects and builders achieve up to 72 Points for a LEED® registered project and meet or exceed other local and state green building codes.
About Styropor EPS insulating core used in all K-tect Sustainable Building Systems
**Does not rely on any "insulating" gas, such as pentane or HCFCs, for thermal insulation performance and thus are completely constant over the long term. (Benefits do not diminish over time but last the lifetime of the building structure.)
**During and shortly after manufacture, pentane is exchanged with air in the cells of the EPS and may be collected for disposal. (No harmful chemicals and no offgassing.)
**Requires the least amount of material to meet the necessary thermal and mechanical performance standards required in construction applications.
